Depending on how the increase is done, there is often a hole in the fabric at the point of the increase. It doesn't care what month it is or what holiday is approaching, there is always something fun to knit.
In lace knitting, the pattern is formed by making small, stable holes in the fabric, generally with yarn overs. You will know how to do something that not many people know how to do, but might wish they did. There are actually hundreds of combinations of stitch patterns. This produces a reversible fabric with raised horizontal ridges on each side of the work.
